Biliran: Eastern Visayas' Best Kept Secret
BILIRAN, which was used to be known as Isla de Panamao during the Spanish Era, is located north of the Province of Leyte. The island province used to be part of the Province of Leyte until 1992. Usually tagged as part of Leyte, the Island Province of Biliran is a hidden gem in the Eastern Visayas.
GETTING THERE
Biliran is not a usual spot tourists usually go. Let me tell you ways on how to go to Biliran.
VIA AIR
If you are from Manila, you can book a flight to the City of Tacloban. From Tacloban City, ride a taxi or jeepney and tell the driver to drop of you off in "Downtown". Several A/C Van terminals are located there. Once there, ride a van bound to Naval, Biliran. Travel time would be between 2-3 hours.

VIA SEA
From Cebu, Roble Shipping Lines has direct trip to Naval, Biliran. Travel time would be 11-12 hours. See the schedule below:
The route I chose was Cebu to Ormoc (still Roble Shipping Lines) because I love land trips and the view from Ormoc to Biliran route is very scenic that one should not even miss. See the schedule below:
Travel time from Cebu to Ormoc would be 8 hours. The ship will arrive at 5:00AM. After you got off, you hop on a van bound to Biliran. There are lots of vans waiting outside the Port of Ormoc so the transport would not be a problem. The van fare is P130.00 and travel time is 1 hour and 30 minutes. You should not miss road tripping from Ormoc to Biliran.

TRAVELING AROUND
Biliran has fertile volcanic soil. On your way to Naval, you will see lots of rice terraces on the side of the roads. Though do not expect much because it is not comparable to the ones in Banaue. But, it is still beautiful in its own way.
Biliran is also famous for their falls. Most of the tourists usually chase waterfalls in this beautiful island. Some of the famous waterfalls are the following:
- Kasabangan Falls in Cabucgayan
- Tinago Falls in Caibiran
- Ulan Ulan Falls in Sampao, Almeria
- Recoletos Falls in Sampao, Almeria
- Kinaraha Falls in Caibiran
- Bagongbong Falls in Almeria
- Pondol Falls in Almeria
- Hugpa Falls in Biliran (the town)
- Sampawan Falls in Almeria
Sad to say but, I failed to travel around much and to take lots of picture. However, I enjoyed my stay in Agta Beach Resort. And locals also offer island hopping for P700.00 only.
